Hello everybody,
This is my first time posting, hoping to get some good advice. I am setting up a 75 gallon tank...I really like Oscars and BP's. I know that most people say they can't go together which is fine. So I am looking at either what could go with 1 Oscar or with 2 BP's for tankmates. Could I put Tinfoil barbs in with either of these, if so how many? Also, please give me any suggestions you have for either an Oscar or a BP setup. I would like some active fish in either of these. Oh, I will be running to filters which says it will cycle at 550 gallons per hour between the 2. Thanks in advance!!! :)

IMO a pair of blood parrots or one oscar would be best. i've seen both getting pretty big. tinfoil barbs get to a foot lonbg each and would need a tank of over 200 gallons for a sufficient school.

If you want an oscar to have friends you need a bigger tank, I think a 75g is fine for 1 oscar but you need a 125g if you want to add more fish with an oscar.

A definite no on the tinfoils, but you can probably keep one oscar and one grotesque abomination ('blood parrot') for a little bit of time as juveniles, but you will need to do very frequent water changes, and at some point one of the fish would have to go. You're better off with just the lone oscar, a great wet pet!!

I suppose you think muts are grotesque abominations too, if your dog isnt purebred might as well kill it huh People like you disgust me. I have a german shepard weimreiner mix, perhaps I should euthanize him.

My dog is a papillon/rat terrier mix. Every dog I've ever had is a mixed breed. There's a a big difference, one being that whether it's a mutt, german shepherd, poodle, it is still the same species. My main problem with the blood parrots is not that they are a hybrid, but also that they are purposely bred with deformities that don't exist in any naturally occuring cichlid.

chill folks. disgust is a strong word to use in relation to a person you havn't met as regards a dislike of blood parrots.

(btw I can't stand 'em myself :D for many reasons including how they look, but that's just me)

75 gallon with an oscar really limits the tank mates you can have. The oscar should have the entire 75g to itself, but a couple of tankmates won't hurt. They just have to get big enough to stay outa the oscars mouth and stay small enough as to not add alot to the heavy bioload.

I had an oscar,jd and 3 silver dollars in a 75 gallon for a cuople years before putting them in a 125, combo worked well.
