Is there any kind of fish that can go with my Malawis other then cichlids?? Actually, scratch that. It can be other cichlids but not Malawis. I'm having a hard time getting the Malawis that I want but there are other types of cichlids I can get around here. Also, Is there a fast "non-cichlid" fish that could go with them that would do okay? What I have is in my signature under the 55g tank. Tank temp is about 79-80F and pH is usually around 7.6-7.8. Thanks.

synodontis catfish make perfect tank mates. They are from the same lake and aren't bothered by the cichlids.

Oh, forgot them (how could I?)...I strongly suggest synos, a group of at least 3. But still keep an eye on them as cichlids are unpredictable.

synodontis njassae
are the only that I know of endimic to lake malawi, but others are still suitable

Hmm...well, is there anything else that could work:( The only synos I can get here are upside down catfish but I don't really like them. Maybe i'll have to make the 3 hour trip to get some Malawis :(

No Master/Visa card though :( and my mom doesn't like the thought of giving out her card # even though I told her tons of people do it everyday.

I've heard that you can have some giant danios in an african tank. they are very hardy when it comes to different p.h. levels and they are very active and fast and will swim away easily if the cichlids decide to bother them. You should have a school of at least 5 of them, but they are cheap enough to afford as a dither fish. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giant_danio

red tailed shark excellent choice only 1 though.
