tap water conditioner

actually I have african cichlids and they are fairly expensive. I guess I must have miracle water coming from my tap if my fish are still alive and thriving. I haven't lost 1 fish yet. I never told him not to use water conditioner, I was just stating what I do for water changes. Furthermore telling me I'm wrong for saying that chloramine never leaves the water makes no sense because I never said anything remotely close to that. Chadly831 if you see that your fish are suffering and you haven't changed the water in a few months and think they'll die in a few hours, then just change the water. If you can wait a few days, get the conditioner to do the water change and make things poifect.

Well I have a cousin going to College in Boston and she has a fish tank and doesn't use conditioner and isn't having any problems, then again she isn't a chemistry major and does not do daily chloramine tests on her tank water or hassles the city water company about the chloramine content percentage of her tapwater. so I know ABOSOLUTELY NOTHING.

So you're ok giving newbies who might read this the impression that it is fine to not use water conditioners? Sounds like it. Your friend has been very fortunate, but you shouldn't insinuate that removing chlorine and chloramine is not important, and only necessary in saltwater tanks.

You could try aerating the water in a bucket using an airpump or leave water in the bucket overnight. Do you have chloramine in it?
