Ok, i found this old tape measure in a box of junk from my nans house it hasn't got metric measurements on it instead it has 10ths and 100ths of a foot. Iv'e shown if to everyone i know and they have never see one like it.
It says made in U.S.A on it so i thought i'd ask people here if they have see one like it? Or is it a common tool on your side of the pond?

Yes. It's what we use here in the States. It gives measurements in Inches. Though I rarely see measurements in 10ths like that at the top. I had to do a double take.

Its common, but I have both at home. I got used to using metric measure here at work (Caterpillar, yes we're metric), I use the metric on I have at home, my fiancee uses the inches.

its not metric it says 10th of a foot...100th of a foot....

Must be some kind of engineer's tape, seeing how it says engineer on the thing.

rws...my dad use to work for Cat, took earlier retirement few years back, my uncle worked there, my cousin works there, got couple friends from H.S. who work there, friends' parents work there...etc...I'm from Peoria

did a quick search, they use 10th & 100th of feet, to ease scaling drawings and models.
