YAKIMA, Wash. -- A 5-year-old student at Apple Valley Elementary in Yakima headed home on the bus with more than books in his backpack. Inside was a smelly package his father never imagined he'd be toting around.

"I'm still kind of in shock over this, because why would somebody do this? It's disgusting!" said the boy's father, who wished to be identified only as "Jason."

Jason says his son's kindergarten teacher had bagged up a piece of human feces and stuck it in his son's backpack. His wife found the stinky mess.

"She found a clear plastic bag with a piece of fecal matter wrapped up in a brown paper towel with the note on it," he said.

The note read, "This little turd was on the floor in my room."

Jason says his son's teacher, Mrs. Graham, called last Friday and said her classroom was "stinky." She asked if the boy could have had an accident.

Jason acknowledged the possibility, as his son had had a couple of accidents in the classroom in the past. He told Mrs. Graham there were extra clothes in his backpack.

Jason never imagined the teacher would send his son home with evidence of his accident.

After his wife found the bagged mess, Jason e-mailed school officials. Days later, he received a response apologizing for the delay in dealing with the issue. On Tuesday, he was still waiting for a chance to speak to school officials about the incident.

"What would have happened if it had stayed in there and she hadn't checked the bag? And other kids were playing on the bus and it got out? And it's a very hazardous thing. It's disgusting!"

The school's superintendent said the boy's teacher and the school principal are being questioned. School officials said they'll meet with Jason and his wife next week.

In the meantime, Jason wants his son placed in a different teacher's classroom for the remainder of the school year.

How does such a person become a teacher?

Well she better get fired and not be aloud to teach anymore. That is disgusting. I realize the child is five and probably shouldn't be having accidents anymore, but he is still only five and these things need to be handled properly. My daughter just turned five and will start kindergarten in the new school year. I would not allow something like this to happen to my daughter either, I would pitch a fit till I got my way. That is way out of my character because I hate confrontation, but not when it involves my child.

I am definitely the over protective mother.

You wouldn't believe some of the things that go on in schools, including elementary schools. Schools are just so desperate for teachers (at least around here) that some of these people slip through the 'process' and get hired. I've also heard that it is often difficult to fire a teacher, especially an experienced one, and that they will often just get transferred to another school in the district or perhaps in another district. I know that our district had a few instances of that, and we're very small.

It works both ways though . .. There are lots of wonderful teachers where I'm from... The biggest problem here, with the newer generation of kids starting school is that when an issue comes up between a student and a teacher, almost every time, the parent takes the side of the student... This only makes it much harder for the teacher to do what he/she has to do.

But that's a whole other story.

As for this story, I would never let the teacher get away with this. That's no way to handle such a situation involving a 5 year old.

I agree completely, sometimes its best to side with the teacher for disciplinary action when needed. I'm a Marine brat and brought up to respect authority figures so I expect my daughter to do the same.

Although in this situation, this should have never happened and should not be tolerated.

as gross as it sounds would you want to have to keep picking up someones poo smooshed into your carpet? there's no reason for a five year old to be pooping on the floor, especially since most kindergarden classes have toilets in them. what she did was kinda gross but i understand her being disgusted by it. children are supposed to be trained before they are allowed in schools.

and yes i have kids. 9, 4, 2 and 6 mos. if my 4 year old pooped on the floor i'd flip.

well, it is really worse here at the elementary, they made my son have an accident in his pants because the librarian said kids ain't allowed to go the the bathroom in specials(library). keep in mind my son is shy and quiet and since little had never had an accident in his life,.. and he was 8 and had to be in front of his classmates, too,...needly to say, when the nurse called me to bring new cloths out,
i came out fuming but the nurse gave them a heads up i was ticked bad,..
and went straight to the principles office and blew up on them, Jesus they are all under my age all of them,... he was shaking after i got done with them, .. and i said this wasn't the first time other teachers are doing what ever they want

they think is a prison and they get to make up things just because,..
have to add for the last few years the real teachers are being let go and the young pretty poopsies are being hired for eye candy,.. and they are the dumbest teachers i have ever seen,.. wearing mini dresses and 4 inch heels????

and they are worried about the kids dressing,.. i bet they never mess with my son again, i told the principle that IF he didn't get the teacher under control i will,. and he knew what i ment,...he was worried about the lawsuit and on going psychological mess this might create with my boy.

someone should put that bag of poo in the teachers desk drawer!

The kids 5, he's having accidents for a reason. The parents need to address it, and work on it, but its not going to clear up overnight.

 that poor kid! Accidents happen that is no way to deal with an accident. Sounds like the teach has some serious issues, mental or not. *shakes head* And people actually question why I have no desire to have kids. I don't want my child growing up in the screwed up world we have today....I bet my grandparents are rolling in their graves about all the crap going on in the world today. I have lost faith in humanity, one moron at a time.
