Kevin, it was -19 not counting the wind chill here this morning but I would never move back to Southern Cal. I lived there 15 years and it was no picnic with the crowded conditions. I am a country boy at heart.
Your water temperature problem is fairly simple CaptMicha. The hose and valve cannot flow as much water as what your shower control is designed to work with so you get whatever side has a slightly larger opening dominating the flow through the hose. It would take a larger diameter hose and valve to make the temperature easy to control. The trouble is that would make your tank fill rate very fast indeed. If you use the sink instead of the shower, it should be much easier to control.
