Hello everyone,
Im thinking about drilling my own tank but im not to sure if it is tempered or not. Does anyone know of a way to tell other then taking it into a glass shop?

The best suggestion I have to give is to check with the manufacturer... It also depends on the size of your tank and the thickness of the glass...

I have an all-glass 125g and its all tempered... I cant drill my tank:mad:

If you know who made it and what size it is, look it up...

Other than that, I don't know how to tell a difference.

You could try to google it?

Yeah iv tried google and cant find anythinf...and i have no idea who made it because it got it used. its an 80G tank and the glass is 3/8 thick...if that helps anyone? lol

Bob Fenner has something on his site about using a pair of polarized sunglasses to determine tempered glass if you do not know the manufacturer. I forget exactly what the technique is, search around on his site (wetwebmedia.com)

Drobes is spot on...just put on a pair of sunglasses and look at the glass from a slight angle. If it is tempered, you will see dark spots all over the glass. Quite easy to check for...

FlowRate for closed loop??

Oh ok thanks alot guys. Ill deffinetly check that out..wouldnt want to shatter my tank lol. But now im wondering what size bulk heads i should use. Im going to drill an over flow near the top of the tank and have 2 reaturn lines coming through the bottom for a closed loop system that comes out of the sand. Its an 80G and i cant figure out the flowrates... it will drain into my sump then get pumped back up...
