Hey everyone, I'm getting my new ten gallon tank this week. I'm probably going to go with the start kit that Walmart has for around 40 bucks. I'm really wanting to have mainly just Wisteria and Anacharis in this tank.

I tried live plants in my 55g but never had luck. I have a Compact Flourescent 130 watt light on it, and I added Excel to the plants but they always lost their leaves and never worked :(. So, with this size tank, will the light that comes with a tank work, or will I need to upgrade? Will I also need to add fertilizers/CO2?

Again these are the only 2 plants I'd like to have mainly because they're the only two that are readily available, plus I love the look of it. Thanks!

Wisteria and anacharis are pretty easy to grow. You should be fine with the lighting you have. Let the anacharis float.

You will have better luck getting some different plants from someone on this forum that will suit your tank better. Most pet store plants wont grow to well in your tank, unless you find a petstore with a good variety of the more uncommon plants.

Agree with Squeakfish, those two should do well there.

Keep the Wisteria trimmed up. It will grow fast and thick on ya. ;o)

So the light that comes with the 10 gallon starter kit will work just fine with Wisteria and Anacharis? And I won't really need to add any fertilizers, or should I order some just in case?

The starter kit 10 gallon that I got came with a hood that had two screw in incandescents that could be swapped for compact fluorescents. I had a lot of algae problems when I did that, even after I added DIY CO2. I found my tank much easier to manage after I switched to a regular fluorescent strip light. I think I had 2WPG with the compact fluorescents and it dropped to 1.5WPG with the strip light. I have plenty of wisteria and anacharis and they seem to do well with the 1.5WPG setup.

That's great. I'm probably going to have a guppy or platy tank and the wisteria will give the fry a good place to hide. I love how bushy and thick the Wisteria gets.

My 55g tank is an Angel-Cory tank, and once the fry get larger I think I'm going to add some to the angel tank, but I'm not sure. I kind of like having an Angel/cory only tank.
