Terra Cotta pots as caves?

great suggestion! I've also been wondering how to cut my terracotta "caves" and I think I prefer that method over power tools, being a girl :p:
 
i have used half-buried terracotta pots as caves, but the fish don't really use them. I also have one which is upside down but I widened the drainage hole so the fish go through there. that makes it darker and the fish use it more. Also if you use a hammer to break them you may want some silicone ready to stick it back together - it will often break more than you intended.
 
Dremel tool with a cutting disc an some water are your friend. If you soak it in water for a while before you start cutting, it makes it easier to cut through. After teh cutting I used a sanding bit on my dremel to smooth it out. Then of course they got soaked again to remove the dust.

Orchid pots are cool if you can find them. They have slots cut around them. Here's mine:
