Tetra Aqua Safe start *NEW*

If it is not refrigerated I do not see how this so called bacteria can still be live. What a farce! Dumping that in your tank would probably do more harm then good. Again another so called miracle product that preys on the new unsuspecting fishkeeper.

Marineland claims that Bio-Spira can be kept alive at higher temperatures but only short term.

They can claim what ever they want. Bio-spira needs to stay refrigerated in order for the live bacteria to continue to be live. Otherwise if it is not refrigerated then the bacteria dies and your money has been wasted.

it would be interesting to test this and see.

the test would be simple and harmless.

set up a tank..feed it ammonia with their product ..test daily even several times per day..
test for 1 week and see what happens.

I'm not ready to poo-poo a new product..I'd be willing to test it if I can convince my wife I need a new tank ..for testing purposes...LOL

Oh then yeah, it definitely works! It's shelf life is comparable to a Twinkie, which would lead me to believe that adding a Twinkie to my tank would have a similiar effect...NOTHING!

However, I would eat the Twinkie and not this Tetra stuff... so therefore the Twinkie would keep me alive and happy longer so that I could take care of my fish

Joking aside, the Bio Spira stuff does work quite well.... We've been selling it for quite a while and havent heard of any case of it not working. I am, however, curious about Marineland's claim that it can survive without it being chilled. The product is delivered to us chilled and is immediately put in our fridge -- we can't even order it from our normal "consumables" vendor... we order it from our live aquatics vendor.

To me, it just doesnt make scientific sense that you can start a colony of live bacteria from a product that is at room temperature.... but then again I guess at one point I was skeptical of Bio Spira so maybe I should shut my mouth :)

At any rate, I may see if we can get this product in and actually try testing it and see what happens. It's times like these that I wish I owned the store and could make certain decissions

Q: Does BIO-Spira® need to be refrigerated? A: BIO-Spira® is an active bacteria culture. Refrigeration provides the optimal long-term storage. If BIO-Spira® is left out of the refrigerator at room-temperature, it will still perform at optimal conditions. However, it is best to return BIO-Spira® to refrigeration when possible. Use the following as a guide:

a. Long Term Storage (1 year): 50°F (10°C)
b. Mid Term Storage (6 months): 39°F-87°F (4°C-31°C)
