Hello All,

I'm getting my third fish moved into the 12 gallon, still fishy cycling--though all readings are still coming in at zero--tank, and I'm noticing some unique behavior traits, and I'm wondering if some here who are experienced with tetras can fill in some info for me. The books and internet sites seem to just give general needs and behaviors like 6+ for shoaling, etc., but if anyone can direct me to further reading I'd appreciate it.

My newest whiteskirt is shy. Very shy. Granted, he's still adjusting to a new tank, but he tends to hang out nearer to the top of the tank and away from the other two. He was very agitated at being floated in his bag when I brought him home, so I did the net-and-dump method (thanks to the poster who gave that information in the other thread), as the water temperature was nearly identical. He's eating, but doesn't seem to want to "proto-shoal," for want of a better term for 3 fish shoaling or schooling, much to the annoyance of the other two. He was the last in his tank at the LFS and was doingthe same there. Is he just the nerdy new loner kid in school, or should I be concerned about his health...and longevity.

The oldest, the Pinkskirt, is big and aggressive. I've seen her headbut and bodyslam other fish, especially during feeding time. The older whiteskirt is pretty good at self-defense, but I'm a bit concerned about the tough kid vs. the quiet loner kid.

Ah, high school all over again. ;)

I'm going to start (fishlessly!) cycling a 10g quarantine tank this week, but at the moment, should I be concerned and is there anything I should do?
