I think insect meal has to much "exoskeleton". So nothing but shells.

I was thinking of its use as a filler material. Of course, all of this would depend on what insects were used. Some are definitely more crunchy than others.
As a flake food, however, I don't think the fish would have a difficult time eating it.

I've never had a problem using tetra brand fish flakes/food. My fish ate it, they were colorful, and looked healthy. I tend to use a larger variety of food now for my fish...
