blackskirt tetra vs. serpae tetra, which one do you guys think is more aggressive? how about prone to disease?

none of them should be agressive....
and blacks are more hardy...
alot more...
thier probably the toughtest tropical fish you can get ur hands on

On the contrary, both of them have reputations as fin nippers. The Serpae more so than the Black. Keeping either in a school of six or more does seem to lower their tendency to nip however.

I have a small school of each in a 35 gallon tank and never had any problems with them. And I think they are both very hardy, I've had them all for at least a year, and never once had any disease, (I take that back, I did have a molly get cotton fungus really badly and die, and the tetras never caught it). I do notice the black tetras seem to school a little better, but will nip at each other occasionally, but they never inflict any damage. I also have 2 male guppys in the tank and they have never been bothered by either type of fish. In my experience I would recommend either one!

I also have both in my 35 gal... 2 blacks that were given to me over a year ago and are at least 5 years old and still thriving. My serpaes are young still (i have 5). I haven't had problems with either in terms of nipping, but the serpaes are definitely zippy little guys.

I am new to the wonders of home aquariums and have set up a 55 gal
community tank with

3 opaline gourami
3 rosy barb
4 serpae tetra
7 zebra danio
4 leopard corydoras
2 clown pleco
I want to learn more about these fish and am looking for info on the
opaline gouramis, sites I've been to so far dont list opalines, any info
would be appreciated. tHANKS

A few more barbs and tetras would be really nice in your tank, you certainly have room for a few more of each!
