So, my tank is finally settling down from the disease that caused me my first fish losses. In total, I lost my spawning pair of GBR, my two apistos, my two taeniatus, and a single glowlight tetra. The other fish which were showing symptoms (nannacara and yoyo loaches) seem to be recovered.

Anyway, while I'm not going to be adding fish until February, when I get back from vacation, and even then only after quarantine, I'm thinking about adding more tetras or schooling fish.

I love my little glowlights. They're simple, but pretty, and such good schoolers. I figured they'd be alright with the Angels for quite awhile, as the Angelfish are young/small. However, the Angels are growing much quicker than the glowlights, and are starting to try to eat the glowlights when they're hungry! They're still too small to be successful at it (my biggest Angel's body is just under 2" accross, without tail), but, at the rate they're growing, I don't think it will be long...

Can anyone suggest a nice colorful schooling fish that sticks to the mid or upper levels, doesn't grow too big (it's a 90 gallon and the only fish I want that get big are the angels), and won't be angelfish food? :)

There aren't many tetras that'll get along with full grown angels, but cardinals are a bit bigger than the average sized tetra, so tht might work

you could always opt for a black skirt tetra, which isnt very colorful and skiddish, but would never get eaten by an angel.

Not tetras but how about Dwarf Neon Rainbows (Melanotaenia praecox)? I've got 15, the males are gorgeous, they're not too big (~2") but big enough to not be eaten by the angels, mine school VERY nicely and they are just an all around nice community fish.

Beunos Aires Tetras might be a choice to consider.
I don't think so. They will nip if given the opportunity.

The list does not include fin nippers and potentially preys for angelfish.

Hey Lupin, thanks for the list. Only thing is, glowlights are on there, and those are the ones I'm worrying about, lol. Does that mean I'm worrying for nothing and my angels won't be able to eat them? My big silver angel certainly has been trying lately. The up side of that is that the glowlights are schooling beautifully since the angel decided they might make a nice snack (safety in numbers and all that).

Oh, thanks for pointing that out. I did not notice the glowlights. Scratch that fish out.:) I noticed you do have glowlights in that tank. I had mine disappeared when I had angels but mileage will vary so I would simply advise keeping a watch on them as the angels grow. I wouldn't however recommend them just to be safe.:)
