Has anyone ever heard of these? If so, how to care for them?
Thanks!

the very best way to 'care for them' is to put it back where you got it and let it live in the wild, where it belongs.

are you talking about Rana catesbeiana??? North American bullfrog??

yeah, let it go.

We got it for my son from a local fish store. He is keeping it in a 10 gal tank. We asked the lady that worked there how to care for it and she said she didn't know anything about it other than that in 1 year it will become a frog. It is still a tadpole right now. So, how do we care for it?

why did you buy it if you don't know how to care for it?

most tadpoles eat soft, rotting plant matter, toss your leftover veggies in the tank. maybe a tiny bit of meat now and then. once legs start growing, it will need land and water. keep the water clean (are you using a filter?), and no tankmates. since you bought it from a store, do not release it into the wild. you're stuck with it now.

well I think it best to determine the species of frog. very often we may seen animals mislabeled.

the fact you got it from a fish store tells me that you should NOT release this animal back into the wild.
in the tadpole stage the frog should feed primarily from on it's tail. after that frogs tend towards meaty foods including bugs and small fish etc. but again I am not sure of the 'texas' bullfrog.

Thanks star rider! :)

i have to disagree. the tail is not for food storage, like some kind of yolk sac. it is for swimming. tadpoles eat plant matter, dead leaves, and other debris. algae wafers are suitable but real veggies are better IME. as adults they'll need feeder fish, worms, and crickets, etc. . .

Raising tadpoles

just do a simple search for "tadpoles" "bullfrog tadpoles" etc. . . .

kind of a mute point at this pointin time..suffice it to say they atleast had the right idea to ask here..don't you think??

you are correct they do eat algae so a veggie diet of soft food is a good idea.( I meant to include that..alas it is a drawback when one posts from work...I should have taken more time to proof my post..my appologies)

so you ever heard of a texan bullfrog???
