Thanks guys Im pretty sure I have a female as no hump and smaller size. Theres also a black spot behind the dorsal fin which I read determines sex in this species and black means female dont know how true that is though
Well SOB I cant belive I never knew there was a difrence between the Texas Cichlid and the Carpintes and ive been looking stuff up :read: on this for two days. Wow I really missed something there. I really think maybe thats why my fish is only 7" Im pretty sure its not a true texas cichlid but a carpintes. Anyone have any distinct pics between the two? :duh: The ones im finding online are not all that good as these two fish seem to look a like. Im almost positive thats what happened though
Geo Force is that the green texas cichlid? If it is then its not a Texas cichlid either but the Carpinte. Thats how I got lost I bought a Green Texas and assumed it was the same as a Regualer Texas but its not.
As far as I know I have a regular Texas Cichlid, I don't know about different color variations, they should end up the same as they mature...besides that red one mentioned before which should be man made...
I found that pic of the carpinte at auqahobby too and it was the only place that had one that looked like that. look at the carpinte on this link looks like your fish. I think im going to have to ask mojo his opinion http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?cls=16&cat=1956&articleid=2552
