thank you all for your responses. Yes, the algae can be wiped off or vaccumed. It is a new tank ( 2 months ). Advised to keep light on for no more than 10 hrs a day max. In fact, it is on for about 16hrs.
Feeding: Alternate days - bloodworm for fighters, tetra variety wafers for bottom feeders and a few flakes for hatchets.
Fish: Male fighter, female fighter, 5 silver hatchets, 5 guppies, 2 small catfish, 4 swordtails and 2 remaining tetras (appear to be living harmoniously!) The hatchets only take the flake, the fighters only take the bloodworm and the rest eat anything and everything! The fighters weren't getting a look in at the bloodworm, so we used the other foods as a 'decoy' to give them a chance. Is this sensible or overindulgent? Can you recommend different feeding techniques?
