How long has the tank been up and operating? What other fish besides the angel?

and the cost of plant substrate, liquid plant supplement, and co2 systems if you want to go that far unless its a DIY co2. i didn't use flourite plant substrate or co2, but i do supplement with seachem's flourish. all i need now is a more powerful lightng system (currently 15w in a 20G, looking at a twin tube strip lighting for 30w

I have a smaller project going. I have a 12 gallon eclipse that I am trying to do planted. I threw in some plants I found on clearance at a pet shop that were almost dead. I also put in some walmart aponogeton bulbs. The tank has an Eco-something substrate in it. I hope it works out. I am trying to go cheap.

you dont need to get plant subsrate. you dont need plant ferts or co2 in a low light tank. its really cheap to do a low light planted tank. whats even better is if you go to this link where people are giving away free plants all you do is have to pay the shipping charge.

many people (like me) have plants that are both low and medium light, and although you don't need plant substrate (as i don't) it does help. so does plant supplement, even if they are low light plants. i don't use co2 so i wouldn't know if they are or aren't needed.

I've never used substrait, CO2 and have had done well with live plants(good growth and such), with the exception of my crawfish devouring them.
