The 75gal reef tank cycle has started!!!!!!!

We are planning to get a few fish soon and put them in QT for about 4 weeks. In that time I'm sure we will get more rock and watch the readings in the display. We might not have all o the rock but hopefully most. If we have to cure the rest in a can then we will. I just figured a few pounds would be like adding a new fish or two at one time.

OH by the way we got that Koralia #1 the other day. You guys were right of coarse. That thing dose almost nothing. to tell you the truth it seems to be running backward. I can see things that are floating in the water being sucked in the front of the powerhead.

With your size tank I'd go a minimum of a #3.. And probably 2 at that as thats what I have in my 75 with no problems. But then I'm a reef tank. Again I know you want to purchase locally but I was down in the cities (Minneapolis/St. Paul) last week for some testing and stopped by a couple of the shops.. One that had them wanted 61 bucks for a #3. I about spit. There is an abundance of them now, here was just a quick search on ebay

With shipping I could almost buy 2 for the price they were wanting there. Now I have two but wanted to see what the local price was as none of our stores are carrying them.

So now you can be like the rest of us.. when you think you have the right # for the Koralia by the GPH on the box.. go one bigger. Right? ;) MarineDepot has a good price on Koralia IMO.

I use the K-Nano as it is a little more "guarded" for the close quarters of a small QT. That way if there is an accident, it is hopefully lessened since the PH is smaller and it's cage is more closed. IMO

As I had posted before my GF had to order a heater for the QT that we have on our desk for her fish from her other tank. Well when she was buying that she noticed that she could add something else on with out the shipping cost going up. She tried to get a #3 but the weight was to much so she just got a #1 and figured that we would find some use for it. either in her tank, 1 of the 2 QT, or maybe even our fuge. I just put it in the tank to see how much it pushed and knew that you guys said that they don't push as much as you might think. I'm just letting you know we got it and saw what you meant.

We are going to go with 2 #3 to start and maybe a #4 down the road. It is a reef and not a FOWLR so we are going to need that much flow I think. We are just buying things as we need them and we knew we didn't need them for the cycle. Also there is now way I'm buying them at any of the LFS unless they come way down on there prices. In some cases you can get 2 for the price of 1 if you buy off line. I just hate the wait and the chance to get screwed.

The next thing we have to get is another QT. When planning this whole thing we didn't know we were going to have to buy a QT for her fish from her 29gal at her parents house. We were in a rush and had to get something fast so we went to pet smart and bought a eclipse 12gal all in one other then the heater. It cost around $100.00 and then we just used one of the 2 heaters out of the 75 till she could order another heater off line. The heater is a good heater and cost $14.00. Now we knew after that that we were going to have to get another QT for the fish that we wanted to put in our 75gal. That next weekend we went out to a few LFS that Sploke had told us about. When we were at the stores we looked at what we really wonted to get for our fist QT witch was a Bio-Cube 8. They are on sale for $150.00 with a $25.00 rebate. We almost S#%*! We should have just got that in the first place but they don't sell them at pet smart. So anyway we are going to get the Bio-cube 8 for our fish and when all the fish are out of QT then we will use the Bio-cube for a Zoo tank and the eclipse for a QT. Because of all this we haven't gotten the Koralia's that we want yet. I think she is going to just use the #1 in her tank at her parents house. I don't think we need one in the fuge and the only other thing I can think to use it for is to age water.

Thanks for all the post guys I really like hearing what everyone has to say about what we are planning so feel free.

Sean,

Yeah I just figured get it to the point that we can get it cycling and buy everything else while it was. The thing is, it's going faster then we thought and the ick thing kinda kicked us in the butt so we are a bit behind now but will get there.
