The 75gal reef tank cycle has started!!!!!!!

Then I am guessing it is eating. If they work like a porcelin crab, the feathers collect the phyto and when is sucks in it is cleaning the phyto off the crown and eating it. A crab stick out its feathers into the current, then sticks them in their mouth to clean off the fans on their claws. The reason it never did that with cyclopese is it couldn't eat that, it was too big, so it wasn't actually collecting any food. Remember.. microscopic food here. We can't see it.

I know that now but i didn't think it would catch that much that fast. It really is as soon as it hits the water. then it waits like 10min to come out again.

Well I have to goto to bed. have fun guys.

Ya, you would be suprised how little it actually takes to feed them. Probably 1-2 drops into the tank is fine now. Later on if you get other corals that eat phyto you will need to use a little more, but for now, as you have just learned, a very little goes a long way.

Yes woodright i noticed that too with ours ,i tried to target all and they close up .
We are going to make contraptions out of old 2l coke bottles and attach tubing then cover and put in the food .
going to try that tomorrow as wee want to be sure the bottle is safe and washed it many times .for now im just squirting it in the tank after a few min from the fridge.
Iwas woundering the same thing "ace" to the rescue again :-)

woodright i was afraid with all those fish in your QT your were going to have a problem... i tend to agree with ace here, just put them all the the DT and keep an eye on them. you have the QT if anything comes up. just don't get any more fish for at least 2 weeks so you can make sure everyone is looking good and won't need to move into QT (and QT can settle down to normal params). then take it easy and just get 1 fish at a time! your QT is really much too small to support 2 fish at a time im afraid...

Thing is the 8gal is not really our QT. We have a 12gal that is our QT but Ashlee's fish from her parents house are in there because one of them had Ick. We are going to bring them back to her house but then we have to clean the 12 and start that one over. So we wont be able to put the three fish from the 8 in there either. So I think they are gonna go into the 75. I'm going to call her and talk to her about it now. We are not planing on getting any more fish for a long time. We wanted to get them in there after QT and wait a month or so before getting any more. I guess we will just get all the fish into there tanks here and at her parents house and then Cycle the 8 and the 12. The 8 is going to be her little Zoa tank when we get it all figured out.

Thanks you for your help and Ace also.

Ok well I just took them outof the 8 and am dripping them not to go into the 75. Please cross your fingers and wish us luck that they don't have ick or anything else.

Well there in the tank and so far they seem to be doing fine. I'm going to keep an eye on them for the rest of the day to see what happens. Iwould think they will be fine. All the readings in the tank are great.
