The 75gal reef tank cycle has started!!!!!!!

Update....

SG 1.024
ph 8.2
Am .75
rites 2
rates 75
Cal 480
temp 77

I have a question. Now that our Nitrites and Nitrates have pined the test kits that we have how do you know what there doing? Does it matter? Will the rites an rates kill the bugs in the tank or the worms that are living in the rocks?

Your nitrites should fall down to zero, and by your nitrate results, its should be starting to fall back down to around 10ppm pretty soon, its risen quite high....You may get the odd critter die off on the rock with nitrates that high, but, i would not worry too much about it..Life is amazing, it will grow back when the parameters are settled....

I'm just surprised at how fast the tank is going. At least it seems that way to me.

good to hear everything is going well. wish you good luck as tank progress. o yeah QT EVERY FISH you get, dont end up like me. -_-

wood, seems like all is going well for you i'm glad to see someone sstart from scratchand pretty much do the whole thing DIY, i'm currently waiting for tax $ to start mine, been buying things for the last year and a half to get ready for this tank, and still find myself needing to buy a few more things, but this hobby requires patience, and i don't think i can wait much longer to get started, but its been a much anticipated event for a long time now, i will be posting pics in a thread once i get everything together, right now i have a sump i made out of acrylic, not pretty, but it doesn't leak!!! andam about to start building my cabinet. well sorry to go off babbling, keep up the good work!

Hey Man,

Thanks allot for the post. Liston the reason I started this thread was to hear what people think about what I have been doing so i hope you and all others will feel free to post at any time. It's funny, I see that there are so many people check out the thread but I don't seem to get that many posts. I really do want to know what you all think so please post even if it's just to say Hi.

As far as patience goes I have NONE. You can just ask my GF. She will tell you all about it. It kills me that we can't put anything in the tank for a few more weeks if not more. Things do seem to be going faster then I thought but more then likely knowing my luck it will slow down to a crawl. It helps having her fish sitting right next to me on the desk so I can look at something that moves. LOL She laughs at me cause she sees me staring into the tank at just about nothing. She told me I would do that when we started this whole thing.

back to the patience thing. I started this thing I think around 1/10/08 by buying and building our sump. I got the tank on the 21st so that goes to show you that I have zero patience. I think this hobby is going to be good therapy for my lack of patience. I hope! Either that or make it worse. LOL

To end this book I just want everyone to know if they have any thoughts or ideas about what I am doing as far as our setup or anything that has to do with SW it self please post them. Don't be afraid I don't know where any of you live and I'm a real nice guy if you don't know me. LOL :O)

if it doesn't help maybe all the money u'll b spending will, thats how i've managed to stay so patient, i've already got over 1000 into this and all i have is a tank with a bunch of boxes in it(power heads, return pump, skimmer, etc.), you get the drift, i still need to stock up on salt and a cal and phos test and upgrade my pcs down the road but i'll worry about that once the work season picks up, but hey good things cocme to those who wait right?!?!?

oh yeah and i built my sump back in august which is being used as a clothing shelf for now, gotta love how women just can't leave ur things be!!!!!!!:wall::mad2:
