With all of the crashes in the news lately from birds getting sucked into the engines of jetliners..
I am just sittin here all bored, and I wonder...

A Boeing 747 is 232 feet long
Its 196 feet wide
and 64 feet tall...

Its engines produce 46,500 pounds of thrust... EACH. There are 4.

It holds 48,500 Gallons of fuel
it can fly at nearly 600 miles per hour.

it weighs between 735,000 pounds (333,390kg) and 970,000 (439.985) pounds fully loaded..

So we can take 450 TONS of metal, and with and make it fly at 600Mph with nearly 200,000 pounds of thrust...And it can all be taken down by a 4# Canadian Goose?!?!

You mean to tell me that nobody ever thought to screw a piece of screen over the engine intake?!?!

WHats Up With That?

What makes you say...

Whats Up With That?!?!

So I don't get when people say "may I ask..." or "no offense..." or when someone says "I could care less". I mean, you say "may I ask" then ask anyway. The statement following "no offense" is usually offensive. Now, shouldn't it be "I couldn't care less?!"

What's up with that?

Ps. I totally use those first two phrases anyway.

The problem is that those engines are VERY finely tuned - big pieces of metal spinning at that speed, if something even that relatively small hits it, its ehough to throw it enough out of whack that the thing basically ingests itself. The screen idea has been come up with - the problem is icing. It gets cold up there at 30k feet, and any kind of screen over the intake of a turbine would just ice over, preventing even air from getting into the engine.

people try to force their religion down other people's throat because "god told them to"

people say that god works in mysterious ways, so why did that 250year old church come crumbling down and kill 400,000 people?

^ Oh man, I don't like when others try to force their religion on me either. I mean, I love to be well informed on how other people worship, as I love learning about different beliefs and am just a curious person. That doesn't mean I want to be bullied into any!

You know they test those things by throwing chickens into them...

apparently not enough, then
