I'm looking for a power filter that will constantly move the waste off of the sand. The 350 and 200 don't do a good job IMO the waste just lays on the sand(and it's more noticeable now!)I want a filter that has current strong enough to keep the waste moving so it has a better chance of being sucked up.:)

i would look into a canister filter then. problem with a hob is they only go down so much. with a canister you can suck up lower to the bottom. i would put on a AC 110 to go with your other filter. maybe get a small power head that kicks the dirt up. for the most part the way to remove stuff on the bottom is to get a gravel vac and suck it up.

dunno anything about powerheads...where can I get sum info??

get a rena xp3 or xp4 canister filter. Don't need to get a powerhead if you have one of those because they have a power nozzle you can use for the water out take.

I would use a Rena XP3 or 4 and a bio wheel HOB. I tried powerheads in my 125 gallon that has sand, but all it really did was blow in one area which just opened up a hole in the sand all the way down to the bottom glass. Not sure you'll be able to get a setup that gets everything off the surface of the sand...that's the biggest downfall to sand is being able to see that stuff.

exact problem i had in my sand tank. so I use the spray bar on my xp3 angled to the top of the tank. not only keeps it from blowing a hole in the sand, but also gives me a little surface agitation without the annoying HOB water splashing noise

That is the exact problem I'm having now!!!!! The switch to sand was a good move, but wow....You see Everything.....so a rena xp3 coupled with my penguin 350 will do the trick???
