I've searched and read about different substrates for the clowns but no one really had any definite answer. My tank will be 125g (36"x33"x24") with no live plants, very open with lots of driftwood and caves. Just wondering on the best sand to put in my new tank! Pool sand, silica sand, sandblasting sand, play sand?? any input would be great. thx.

I have what the hardware store calls play sand. The bag however says it is aquarium safe as well. I did the whole washing thing to get rid of the small particles. It was cheap and my fish love it.

thanks. I was thinking of something that was as close to the clowns' actual "real world" environment if something exists like that. I know clowns love to dig in soft substrate. I am setting up a big tank and DO NOT want to change the substrate after it's running! :thud: :read:

You would be looking for mud and silt, which isn't a good idea for an aquarium. Fine silica sand or playsand would be the best option for loaches.

Can you post a pic of your aquarium so we can see how it looks?

Peace...

thanks phanMC. I think I will go with play sand, from what I heard it should do very well.
