The best speciment fish

I agree with Cat about the red Head cichlid they are a great looking fish, if you don't want a hybrid, but if you don't care if the fish is a hybrid go for a male flowerhorn. You can not beat the colors that you can find. Thier lots of different color patterns and body types to choose from now I would go with one of the monkey face ones but that's just me. :dance

If you want a single fish in that tank with a lot of personality, I would go with a wild oscar. The O's you find in most LFS's have "issues" due to the poor breeding practices, but if you can track down a wild caught or one from a known good strain, you won't easily beat them for personality. Sometimes, RD's and Midas are very good too. Jaguars can be cool as individuals, and several of the Vieja genus can deveop personality and can be very good looking fish. Lots of choices.

Speaking of hybrid wet-pets, bloods parrots exhibit most delightful personalities; I have two juvies and they already greet me and follow me when I move along the tank. They hand feed and grow to be fairly large as well.(normally up to 8inches, however the jumbo parrots get huge, up to 14 inches!) If you can find baby 'true' blood parrots you can watch the color tranformation from dull brownish grey striped into a beautiful deep orange. They are unique looking as well, I love the look personally as I do flowerhorns, but a lot of people dislike hybrids of any type. Its a personal thing, I guess - hahahahah but I figure if they are for sale and not harmed (dyed) in the process I dont see why I shouldnt keep one (or many!) if I enjoy the fish. People have cross bred dogs to create new types of dogs so I dont understand why all the controversy about fish and not about the many different types of cats and dogs that have been interbred to create traits that are deemed desirable to the breeder.
Now if we are talking about hybrid mbuna or hybrids being sold as pure bred fish- thats a totaly different story. I would not condone selling or giving to the pet store any accidental hybrid fry that are created....anyways getting OT.
Good Luck in whatever you get.....
