The definition of stupid.

i used pool filter sand. and well not every pool filter sand is just sand.

i remember when i first added it, the water tasted funny. (i dont usually taste my tank water, i was making a sipon the old fashioned way)

then testing the prams. the ph was 8 kh 80ppm and gh 10ppm

which is sooo far off my tap water that i knew something was wrong.
called company and they add a chemical to regulate water ph and to suck up "ammonium ions" or something.

Just curious, What type/brand of pool filter sand did you use?

the ammonium ion part seems a bit fishy...hope everything turns out ok, though.

yea i took all of that sand out and started over.

i dont remember the name, i threw away the bags, but i think it started with a X or Z


playsand it is. its dirty as hell but at least its not going to harm my fish.

everything is back on track tonight.
filter up and running again, added flowerpot hiding spots

ill do a couple more water changes then im adding my fish sunday.

I LOVE THAT HAIR! green is my favorite color but i had blue hair once xD. I can imagine what you went through. when it rains real hard for hours my basement gets flooded because the drain wont drain the rain water quick enough. so the whole basement gets flooded up to about 6 inches high at times and i'll have to lift up this emergency drain thing and dry off all the walls so mold and stuff wont grow all over it.
