The end may be near for my AC experience

Some of the nastiness has certainly been quite high lately and reflects poorly on the way the site has been running. I try to ignore it but sometimes...................

If you decide to leave, I hope we can still stay in touch.

Your knowledge and experience is something that I hope to learn from for quite some time. Maybe I have just been stressed as of late but the outright rudeness exhibited by some members simply is unforgivable in my opinion. I understand the frustration that many members have toward certain things but to simply be rude when someone is looking for support is not what I like to think we do here at AC, I can recommend a few sites where that is the norm but I do not like seeing it here.

ex is a good friend on here, i learned alot from him, from the forum and chatroom... hes one of the few i like ( theres quite a few other members on here i like too ) but ex has helped me alot.

I feel ya. I'm still pretty new and I figure if shoot back real hard on something that got under my skin I'd probably be the first to get in trouble so I ignore a lot of posts like they weren't even typed. Of course I don't mind some snarkiness, it just comes with the territory and I can be as sarcastic as the best of them. All within reason though

For some reason the ambiance here is different and I actually want to be nice. The last forum I was in I was really nice (people even made topics about how nice and helpful I was) but I had no problem telling someone exactly what I thought about them (this place was troll central though). So I just try to be cool around here because I would like to have a long term stay here as this forum is the best place for me in the hobby

It really is a great place for it's sense of community as well as it's wealth of knowledge, it just seems of late the care and respect that was once shown by members simply is not there. DO NOT get me wrong there are still people here who I truly believe would take the shirt right off their back and hand it to someone in need, it is just unfortunate that the nastiness displayed by others seemingly outweighs the kindness. The proverbial scales seems to have tipped in the wrong direction.

I think that some of the lack of civility toward younger members may be backlash against the "entitlement attitude" that has been displayed here. Still, that is no excuse for being unkind. How will younger members know how it is appropriate to interact on a forum unless we model that behavior?

I know that I have felt rather insulted by the egotistical "give me the information I want to hear" attitude shown by some younger (twenty-something or less) members, but then, as one of the "old farts" I could be kind of cynical. I also know that experience isn't everything, and just because I am old doesn't mean I am the only one with valid experience.

I think that the adults need to act like adults and everyone needs to think how he/she would feel if on the receiving end of some of the comments. Overall, I think that AC is a nice place to hang out and get information. We need to be able to take a joke, but to understand when the joking becomes a barbed insult and gets out of hand.

Yup! And yup! I already put my 222 cents into H2Ogal's goodbye thread, but I want to ask before I get banned- what other forums do you guys participate on? There are a good handful of members here who, though we have no real interaction, I will miss reading. There's some really thoughtful, experienced hobbyists here, but I don't think I can just ignore such pour behavior from one in a position of 'power.' Lurking for months, I thought.. Write that guy's a jerk! But when I realized he was a mod, I started to find it untenable.
So.. Where else do y'all go? I've been reading fishlore. Seems okay.

I LOVE fishlore. the mods arent all power hungry and there really arent any rude people there.

No matter where you go. This is everywhere. There are people like this. Look at work places. People you like and people you hate. You will learn that some people are so picky and demanding. While others just want to get the job (tank) done and be happy. This is part of life. You will just have to learn to live with it
