The great cory masacre :(

I think you shouldn't have topped it off with tank water. Should have slowly added water every 15 minutes or drip acclimated.

Also, how clean was the jar? There could have been something in it you couldn't see.

Thank for the input. I had thought tank water would help them get used to where they were going? The jar is my egg raising container which is why it has a heater and thermometer.

Adding tank water will get them used to where they are going, and is good, but it's better to add it slowly. When you top it up all at once, that can shock the fish.

I had bought 3 otos from LFS, so knowing how notorious LFS have bad water & disease carrying fish, I did 25% tank water to bag water & then added tetra's life tablets (1/2 tabs) to 2gal QT container then floated in my tank to maintain tank temps. the fish were also chilled during my car travel. I QT for 4days just to be sure since I have had bad experience more often than not with LFS fish & not QT properly & long enough.

& using http://www.aqadvisor.com/AqAdvisor.php I find out oto's temps much too low & not compatible with my discus tank.

but they are thriving after 2weeks in & at higher temps than they are use to.

I think it may be some of them were sickly & the 60 degree chill shocked them not your tank water. but you did risk bringing in disease to rest of your fish. so, learn from my poor mistake

QT QT QT & don't rush them in!!

Some fish do not handle shipping well. That combined with rushing to acculate them may have been too much for them.

Oh, I see. I did add it slowly. I added it bit by bit over an hour.
I still think I may have heated them and too quickly and moved them around to much and they just couldn't cope. :(

The two survivors still look perky. And I will QT whatever I get to give them a group. I have learned my lesson. I have had a really good run with ordering fish online and never lost any before--but they were being shipped in the summer.
