The Incredable Color Changing Brig Snail

I have 2 blues that I bought at a local pet store that changed their shell coloring and thickness after I started feeding them snail jello.

I've love the photos of blues that some people post on here- then I see them in the store and they are a mucky grey colour. I've wondered if they could be conditioned to have nice shells from the petstore or if they stay that colour.

... although, I don't know if I would ever get one from a store with all the colours being readily available on here.

My blues were a powder blue when I bought them. After I started feeding them snail jello, they changed to a dark grey. I wasn't happy, but there's nothing really I can do about it. :( They're breeding, so maybe I can get some nice blues out of it anyway.

First the color of blue has alot to do with genetics, second food, third water params. The shell of the snail is actually ivory and what you are seeing as blue is the color of the foot shining through. So if the foot is really dark and the shell is thick - you will have BLUE. If the foot is grayish and the shell is thin - it can look blue or grey, but once you give it the proper food and conditions it's shell gets thicker and less of the grey can show through, then all you see greys.

Thanks snoopy. :D That explains alot.

i have one too! was ivory when i bought it but as it grew, it turned golden. maybe cause i was actually feeding it unlike (insert name of big box store here) anyways, i think its neat.
