what about if in australia. :) so RO is what? cause if need distilled water, i can just go find some purified distilled water and dilute with my tap water?

Ro is Reverse Osmosis. Water is forced through a membrane that filters out all solids leaving you with very soft (low gh) water. You need to find out what your GH is in degrees or ppm. Most apistos need water with a hardness of 30-50ppm or 1-3 degrees of hardness I think. The lower the better really. Distilled water also has a very low gh, just more expensive (but it will work).

ahh RO i got it. but its kinda like a forced osmosis, which isn't really osmosis at all, more like faciliitated diffusion of water (facillitated osmosis?). Ok so soft water is better. What about if I sit the water for a few days after I filter it, my granddad used to just sit buckets of water outside to "evapourate" the chlorine, and his fish where very healthy. since it will work for Cl, would this work for other minerals, thus lowering hardness?
