The Peacock Gudgeon Aquarium [Journal]

Mine actually take flake food, which I was kinda shocked. I guess that's what they were given since birth. I still feed them Grindal Worms twice a week and offer flake food every day, or sometimes I skip a day.

You are right though, they can be aggresive in a small closed space, but given the space, they are awesome.

Frosty, I'm gonna get the PVC pipe tomorrow. I wanna have it so I can barely see the PVC pipe from the front, so I'm gonna put it in the back of the tank, parallel to the glass and then have the cap on other side so I can see through the PVC through the right side of the tank.

The only problem is there isn't much space in the back to be able to take the PVC pipe easily. I might have to move some rocks around.

Thanks so much for your help!

You could cover the pipe with silicon and roll it around in some sand so it blends in better. I'll bet you could grow some moss on it if you do that.

I'm actually trying to breed these fish. And so are a few others. I'm having trouble inducing them to spawn. I'm probably gonna get what is a recommended PVC pipe for them to spawn in.

Gudgeons are one of the most beatiful and peaceful fish ever. They would definetely be a great addition in an Australian Biotope. I've thought about it ones but my fish need of different fish didn't satisfy it. I only know Rainbows and Peacock Gudgeons as fish from Australia. There are definetely some fascinating species such as Praecox and some Blue-eyes.

Wait, did you meant to put "Asian" in Australasian? That would be cool to have an AustralAsian tank. :]

Haha, yeah, I meant Australasian...the fish that are native to Australia, Borneo, New Zealand, New Guinea, parts of Indonesia. =) Although according to Wikipedia... "Australasia" means a more specific ecological niche which would exclude New Zealand and Borneo.

Just took a quick look and it turns out, the peacock gudgeon is from Papua New Guinea! I KNEW that area of the world could produce better stuff then a dumb "Survivor" season!

I just added 4 Clithon spp. to the tank thanks to MsJinkzd! BTW, I highly recommend her shizz. The Coronas are so awesome and tiny! Perfect for my tank!

I got the PVC pipe but the Peacock don't seem to be knowing what to use it for. I just tried to move it near the rock work (I have two PVCs) so they'd see tha tone. It's irritating my eyes though.

The guppy with the prolapse is doing excellent and is eating great.

Since you've mentioned an AustralAsian biotope, I've been so interested into making one. Although it's gonna be hard to do one in such a small tank. Hmmm. Gotta talk to parents! The only thing I'm disappointed with is it's hard to find some bottom dwellers. I'm thinking of Dwarf Chain Loaches but they are so hard to comeby. Most of the plants I have are also from Asia.

I think my male is older than the other two. Since the other two are smaller. The only thing I'm thinking since they aren't breeding is that the female is still young. Hopefully, soon they'll notice it. I've been feeding them Grindal Worms to induce them to breeding but it hasn't been succesful. My pH might be high @ 7.4

Day 3 with the PVC and still no sigs of breeding. I'm gonna take out the female guppies and make room for another Peacock or a Dwarf Gourami. :] I kinda wanna get rid of my Pencilfish too.
