The Python

So in using the python a lot of excess water goes down the drain while you syphon the water out of the tank yes?

If so, I find that quite a disgusting waste of water... One that I simply cannot do since my city is in the worst drought on record and we are on level 3 (soon to be level 4) water restrictions (basically, our water supplies are nearing 25% of capacity).

My Back does not consider this a waste of water at all!

But if your living with the "it it's yellow let it mellow if it's brown flush it down" then I guess the next best thing would be a battery powered siphon.

Yes by draining the tank with the sink atachment you waste some water I have no idea how much but if you are on water restrictions or pay for your water then you can always just run the hose out the door and start a syhpon by sucking some air out of the end that is outside while the other end is in the tank. To make it even better you can water your lawn of plants with the fish waste water which will help you conserve even more!

hmm

So when using a python do you just add dechlorinator directly to the tank after you refill it??

i have always added dechlor direct, so yeah.

I just cleaned all of my tanks (90,65,50,40,29, 2x20) in 90 minutes on Saturday. The best thing about the python is it leaves your hands free to do other things. I let it drain (keeping an eye out for fish getting too close) and use a seperate syphon to fill a bucket to clean my filters. As long as there aren't sick fish in a tank, one python does it all!

My only complaint is that the plastic parts can break, but they'r cheap to replace. I'd rather spend a bit more on a metal faucet pump, however.

So does they python have a reverse function? How do you refill all of the tanks so quickly?

yes, it has a reverse function. I set the water temperature while the hose is blowing water, then switch it to suck. That way, when I'm done, i don't have to mess with temperature, I just reverse the flow immediately after sucking enough water out. easy as pie.

if you get one, you'll understand. otherwise that might seem confusing.

Let gravity syphon out the water, run the hose outside or down the sink ect..Someone on the forun said the faucet attachment while syphoning uses 7 to 1 ratio. 7 galons to every 1 gallon of tank water..You can also gravel vac in gravity mode but the suction may be less....:)
