If you tape around the tank you will have to remove it before the silicone starts to cure, if the silicone starts to go hard before you remove the tape it will damage the seals when you do remove it.
When you want to turn the tank over use some duct tape for extra support if you feel it needs it and the more people you have to help to turn it over the better.

Oh my, that right. That is how they pull forensic imprints off of gun barrels using silicone. If allowed to fully cure the tape could pull out a big or tiny section of the silicone between the glass, either would be a bummer. And you cant turn the tank back over to get the tape out until it cures so we are back to square one:y220d:. Maybe use a string to pull the tape off from the bottom.
