Only way I can help is to perhaps mention that the beloved fish, the pacu, lived about 27.5 more years than he would have in most other people's care.

So true....unfortunately.
Deb, I applaud your success in keeping this fish for so long.

Very sorry to hear about this. I don't really know you but I was always amazed when I saw the "3240 Gallon Pacu Tank" in you sig. I can't even imagine what you must be going through. You gave it all you could and the Pacu lived a better life than any probably any other Pacu in captivity (and no, I'm not exgattering). Congratulations for giving him the best care he could possibly recieve. Many other people would look to give a Pacu that big away, and all I can say is, whatever the situation, you are the absolute best person they could give it to!

Debra I've very sorry for your loss, after having the fish with you for so long, it must have been like losing a family member. Feel better girl :(

Hey Everyone...

Just wanted to update....

After four days of massive water changes and cleaning....digging out the bodies (we have 2 x 5 gallon pails filled with Africans)....the tank is stabilizing again, and we have started to begin to restock. We transferred the Syno Cat, Albino Ruby Red Peacock, and Pollit from the 20 gallon into the big tank. We made a roadtrip to Calgary on the weekend and brought home 3 x 12" bala sharks, 2 x tinfoils, 5 x Tretracephalus, 2 x Red Zebras, 3 x Johanni, Electric Blue pair, 2 x OB Peacocks, Syno Cat, and a small Marble Cat (will grow him in the 20g for now). And next weekend we pick up our new Black Arrowana.

It's a start, but the tank still looks extremely empty. And nothing can ever replace the Pacu...

Thanks again to everyone for their kind thoughts...

Did you ever figure out what caused the deaths? Was it the micro bubbles?

Deb, my soul aches for you as I write this. I had seen your phrase on the messenger in puzzlement, but hadn't read the thread til tonite, and I can't stop crying. Always been too emotional, and have lost a sister at 15 (I was 16), my "little bud man" Tibetan Terrier after 18 1/2 years, my 25 yo Quarter Horse mare to cancer last year, and they all hurt equally. Words fail, but please know that you are being sent so much good healing energy from all of us. And what a superwoman hero you were for the rest of the kids--you saved them, woman. Ol' Pacu was cheering you on. Love, Renee
