There's always a tank bully

just my opinion, i think it would be better for u if u can do 25% or more when doing water changes weekly :OT:
what he said ;) I usually do a minimum of 33% weekly, and sometimes as much as 50%. it helps keep your toxins at a minimum.

and as others have said, the mono is kind of a bad fit in there (although I love them!) being a brackish fish that does get pretty big. the sharks will get failry large as well, and need a lot of room to swim.

just some food for thought :)

I've noticed whenever I introduce a new fish to the tanks current "family" of fish it gets its butt kicked 4 a few days till its in the herd and in its place. Thats nature....I've had to surrender fish back 2 the store because it was all beat up and nipped at. One actuallty died it got beat up so much [a powder blue gurami IIRC] Then go back to the store and see it all healed up with its own kind doing well.Guess its my stupidity putting ciclids w/community fish, AND the one im talking about was the biggest in the tank that was getting beat up! I should have researched my present before just using it.

Also sometimes betas and gouramis will fight, even if they do not look alike. I'm not sure, but I think you could say the same for the paradise fish (others would know better than I). So, maybe keep a couple large center piece fish i fill in with a few of the smaller ones. But you have a lot of option when you pick ad chose ad restructure the tank. Good luck.
I concure about the Paradise fish. They are close cousins to Bettas. I wouldn't be suprised to see a male betta and male paradise fish duke it out. I once had a male paradise fish in with silver mollies and that thing would chase the poor mollies all over. I now don't have either of those fish. I have switched to rasboras.

Hi there
I started this thread....I was already planning on returning the mono and the bala sharks when they get bigger..I am hoping the mono doesn't mind the absense of salt in my tank, so far he is doing wonderfully and one of my favourites....I like the way he stares at you straight on in a bold way, then takes off like he's scared....seems very curious about what's going on outside the tank... ...apparently, their need for brackish water goes up with their age...he has grown to about 2-1/4 inches tall since I got him in December.
My paradise fish is completely peaceful and gets along great with the male betta in my tank and all the others.
After I posted that I change 10 % of the water weekly, I realized that I actually do it a little more frequently, and also that I should do it even more...so I'm now up to 2-3 times a week. Thanks for the feedback.
