I am new to fish keeping and just assumed the fish would swim around.

I have these two male guppies that are actually playing!! They are swimming into where the filter is pushing out water and it pushes them around for like a ride! Then when they are out of the 'water current' they do it again.

What kind of playful activities do your fish do?

My endlers play tag--one chases the other and does a fake "attack" then runs away. The tagged guy chases after and "attacks" him. They do this ALL DAY LONG. It's exhausting to watch, but funny! It's never mean, always playful. Sometimes they mirror each other and do some cool synchronized swimming moves together too, where they spin in circles while staring at each other. These fish are the happiest, most playful fish I've ever seen.

My danios and barbs play "king of the jungle" all day long. One danio will swim in the dead center of the tank, while the other fish swim around the lower levels of the tank. One by one they all go flying through the King Danio's "space" and they play this weird tag like game. Then the Danios switch off. It's so weird and exhausting at the same time.

My barbs get weird on their own too. They follow one around the tank and squeeze themselves in between plants and decorations in a "catch me if you can" sort of way.

aww, everybody's stories are so cute :)
A lot of my fishies will ride the bubbles from the airstone, going back and forth for more "turns". My favorite trick are my golden dojo loaches which will give my hand "kisses" and let me pet them. The older one used to curl up in my palm, perfectly content, like a puppy about to take a nap. Now that he has a buddy, he doesn't need to interact with me as much and has gotten a little less tame.

People who don't spend enough time on their fishies have no idea how amusing they can be. Oh, well, their loss.

Yup, my guppies are bubble lovin' fools too. lol My Rainbow Dace do that synchronized swim thing too, they also play tag, race, and swim 'in place' in the filter current.

Ya know..... Since they all play so much, it makes me re-think that Rock with Purple string thing. lmao!!!

If the water level is high enough, my male guppy sometimes swims up INTO the filter output (its an internal filter) to eat the green algae that grows there. Its really something to see him go *fwoop* up stream, nibble around a bit fighting the current, and then sploosh back into the tank. I dont know if he can injure himself like this (I dont really like him doing this) so I try not to fill the tank up so high, but when I do....
