Things customers told you that you knew weren't true

I overheard a girl at wal mart, her and her roommates were getting those little 1.6 litter tanks and 3 getting large goldfish for each tank cause thats what was on the picture. The assistant said he didnt work in the fish department, so he sold them whatever. I told them goldfish produce a lot of waste, and that tank was too small. The lady said "I have had fish for years, I think I know what I am doing". They then put the 1.6 litters filter tank back for one w/o a filter cause goldfish breath from the top.

I had a lady at petco say that dojos like warm water, and a ten gallon was good enough for them. Though, she had hers in a 5g. A few weeks later, she slipped up and admitted to keeping two dojos in a 5g.

professionals doesnt mean expert. does anyone stop and ask how long they been working there? where did they learn? often its a cycle the new people learn from the people who been there. where did they learn? what about personal responsibility of learning to take care of a animal before buying it?

It goes both ways 100%. Customers should be doing their own research, for sure. Nobody (employees & customers alike) should give out advice/information when they don't really understand what they're talking about.

But I think more weight should go on the shoulders of the employees, since customers look to them for help. If they don't know the answer to a question, a simple "I don't know" would suffice, rather than making up some baloney fact or story that only gets a bunch of fish killed.

apparently danios mate for life... Heard that doozy right here on AC.

I heard it tons of places when I was trying to look for info on danios breeding. In fact when searcing on danios breeding there were more hits for that than for egg scattering.

The employees at my Petsmart are pretty good. I cringe all the time about some of the stuff I hear customers saying, and they're pretty good about correcting people.

Man... Where do people come up with this stuff? I guess if you say it like its true, enough people will just believe it and start spreading the word.

Sooo... Have you heard, this dude Ricky has a solid gold car and like a gagilliondy dollars in the bank!

its not like they go to school for this. often min wage job. heck i cant even get people to tell me what they put on a hamburger going tough the drive though yet we expect people working at a lfs to be experts.

yes there are some that lie and do what ever it takes to get the sale but i believe many just dont know any better. i am sure many dont willing give people wrong info they just got wrong info their self. think of all the wrong info thats get posted on the net about fish.

I actually had a 10 year call me on the phone and then stopped in later to get a divider for his tank because his fish were fighting. Listening to him on the phone he sounded like a very mature young man. Very polite and he could tell me everything that was going on with his tank. I wished all my customers were like him. It's sad in one way that the most intelligent customer I had today was a 10 boy. Good thing just think how knowledgeable he will be in 10 years.
