A few months back I saw 4 ember tetras in a tank at the local Petsmart. There were no labels for them on the tank. I asked about them, and the employee told me they were baby sunset platies. I kept my mouth shut and smiled. My 9 yr. old daughter said after the employee left, "Aren't these amandae tetras?" I nodded and smiled. I had just bought some at another LFS so I didn't want to buy more. I later told my friend about it. He went there and got them for 19 cents a piece (clearance price) since they couldn't figure out what those fishes were!

Today I went to another LFS and saw a lone C. habrosus in a tank with some black mollies. Again, no labels for cories. The employee told me that it was a baby molly that hasn't changed color. So I bought it for the price of a black molly. It'll be fine with my 5 C. pygmaeus.

As he was scooping me some cherry shrimp and trying to make conversation"Cherry shrimp are known to attack snails and use their shells for shelter". I just kept my mouth shut and laughed extremely hard inside.

My lfs people know their stuff, (It's owned by two people who know lots about fish - and they don't hire other workers).....But walmart on the other hand..WOW.
I was getting something there one time and my sister grabbed one of those tanks they sell that come with all the stuff, walked up to me and said "I want this". I laughed and told her she couldn't buy fish right now, esp. at walmart - that'd she have to cycle it. Then the walmart-fish-lady comes up and tells my sister that she don't have to cycle it and she can buy fish right now as long as she uses jug water. I started arguing with her, but she thought she was right, so I left it at that.
I just wish they'd hire educated people there.

I have a co-worker that bought a 10 inch common pleco because the guy at the LFS told her it would be okay to have one inch of fish per gallon and she had a 10 gallon tank.

Oh that? its a red pacu it will only grow to be 4 inches, will fit fine in a 10 gallon tank.. oh hey while your getting fish let me grab you two of these oscars
