me: whats that? * points at silver dollar*
employee: thats a dwarf angel fish with out fins!
me: how much is it?
employee: 60$
me: laughing to death on the inside
As he was scooping me some cherry shrimp and trying to make conversation"Cherry shrimp are known to attack snails and use their shells for shelter". I just kept my mouth shut and laughed extremely hard inside.
To be fair, I have seen something that looks like that in one of my tanks. A dying or dead JTS suddenly one day was half-eaten by my RCS and the next day, the shell was clean. Some RCS still spend time in the shell on and off...so that one's not too far-fetched.
ok- sorta off topic, but i used to work at w*****t in pets. This lady points to a 25lb bag of Tidy Cat cat litter and says,
"I keep giving this to my cats but they still won't eat it."
Oh man, those poor cats! One guy at my lfs (he was kinda a know it all) told me that brigs do not breathe air. I talked about their siphon and still didn't get anywhere. I mentioned it as the brigs were in small, closed in containers at the bottom of the tank. At least they were getting zucchini.
"Oh, you have gravel? Then you can't get cory catfish, because the gravel will hurt their barbels. But you can get these clown loaches. They'll do just fine in your 20 gallon tank."
Mine isn't a fish story mine is a tarantula story. I work for P***o and my husband was going to buy his first tarantula and he wanted to buy a book. Well we didn't have one. So he went to another P***o, when to P******t and then to P*****d and the person there asked what do you need a book for they are all the same and are easy to care for. So he went back and looked at their tarantulas and one was a rose hair the other a pink toe. Two totally different needs but they both had the same set-up. He said that he would never buy anything from them. We went back there another time and they have the hamsters out so you can reach in and pet them. Well one of the male hamsters privates were bleeding because the other hamsters were biting him on the gentiles. I told an associate and she said that the reason that his gentiles were hurt, wasn't because the other hamsters were picking on him it was because his gentiles were abnormally large and he was dragging them on the floor of the cage..
Them: "At least with them, you don't need to cycle the tank first as they will do it for you."
Me: "Are you aware that your Blackskirt Tetras have a serious case of Ich? The whole tank is infected!" Them: "Fish have scales and don't itch, and besides that is a new strain of Blackskirts called White-spotted Blackskirts" Me: "I'm sorry but I have changed my mind, I wont be making any purchases."
