thinking about a newt vivarium

I want to start a newt vivarium...
think is, I'm really scared of lizards and such.
But newts are soooo cute!!!!!

What do they feel like? (slimy?) I think I might be able to do it if I get a baby-that way I won't be that scared of it.


Also, I can mix fancy guppies in with them, right? Newts are brackish water or fresh?

EDIT: Oops, I forgot.. is there such a thing as a filter and pump? I want to do a waterfall feature but I don't want to purchase a filter and pump separate if I don't need to.
 
newts (like 99% of amphibians) must have fresh water or they will die. also, they are not lizards at all and require cooler temperatures. possible "tankmates" would be whitecloud minnows maybe weather loach, snail...etc.

they need a land area and a closed lid. also, they eat live/frozen food (blood worms and such) some can be trained to take freeze-dried

Hm, is there possible hostility in your tone? Or could I be mistaken. Kinda felt like you are tired of newbies, idk-just a thought.

I thought newts might have been brackish because I saw a picture with a newt (I forgot which kind) with guppy fry, and guppies do best in brackish water (they're not really fresh unless you condition them).

I was originally thinking of a crab of some sort, but I wasn't sure if the crab would "nip" at their fins.
 
no hostility. those crabs you mentioned are probably brackish and need land as well plus an aquarium heater
