thinking about built in filter for low water line

so, here is a to scale sketch, for my 15g long tank. the blueish area is the waterline, the red and pink lines are 2" and 1" of substrate... I'll probably only use an inch of sand this time around but who knows what I'll want to do down the line. I also decided to NOT glue in the second divider for the pump, this way I can take the divider out if I decide to use a bigger pump or need to adjust it. the foam would just rest on a piece of half inch angle bracket.

Looks like that'll work.

And a quarter inch under the foam for flow, should be plenty of room for water to flow easily. If that'll help any.
I figure the pic isn't real exact. But you have plenty of foam left over to drop it down another 1/2" or so.
 
I like the idea... why don't you try it and see?
