Thinking of Building a Biocube 14G

God my lights suck for color, it's almost a total bummer. The Zoas I received still look cool under my lighting but man I'm wishing for LEDs. I just received my order from Coral Morphlogic, I received an extra coral and a little message on the box, I love the extra touch. Sadly, my 3 heads of purple people eaters, the ones I wanted the most, aren't opening, while everything else is... I'm hoping for it right now. Anyway, here are some quick pics... I wish I had a better lens for close ups :(

Yep, I see it. Probably nothing to worry about but keep an eye out for nudibranchs. Nice additions! There are lots of cheap LED supplement strips you can add to a BC. Panorama modules, reef brites and even DIY kits from Rapid LED or Reed LED Lights are all chaep add-ons that will light up a tank like yours nicely.

Second photo shows the PPE, you can get the jist of what it's doing. Still no change over night, it even looked slightly worse when I turned the lights on.

The only hitch hikers that I found were two copepods that made it and one of those half snail half nudibranch guys with the little baseball cap shell. I forget what they are called.

Also, what type of putty or glue should I buy to mount these things to my rocks? I forgot how destructive snails are to small things.

crazy glue gel works pretty good but any adhesives with cyanoacrlyate works pretty good. For putty I've used Aquastick which worked ok as well. Turbo snails like to bulldoze my zoa's if I don't go super heavy with the gel.

If you have a Dollar Tree near you go there and buy the entire peg of their SG Gel. 3 tubes for $1 and the stuff works better than any I have ever used. I buy them out almost everytime I go. I think the clerk thinks I huff the fumes :). Unless I had a really large rock that I wanted to stick somewhere, I will never use putty again. It's messy, it gets hot while it cures and causes my skimmer to go nuts for days. I can use 3 tubes of SG and get a better result and not have a white mess all over the place. Granted I can't pull my fingers apart when I'm done but that's just a minor detail :).

If you have to use a putty, might want to see if you can find this stuff...

I super glued a bunch to rocks, I need to find spots for only a few more. PPE is still looking like crap, which blows.

Anyway, Rapid LEDs looks pimp with the 14 biocube retro fit. I'm just wondering if the dimming units are worth it or if the non-dim is good enough. Honestly, I wish I was an electrical engineer sometimes... I'm always at a loss with it.

So after not having any water testing tools sense the start of this tank I finally got some yesterday to make sure the Gobies had a proper habitat. I pretty much figured the nitrates would be a tad high as I didn't do a water change yet. I got home and did the tests and my assumption was correct: Ammonia 0 Nitrite 0 Nitrate 10-5ppm So I did a water change last night and tested again this morning and it dropped to 5ppm.

On another note. I still have tons of snail eggs everywhere as there is nothing to eat them and have been finding tiny baby snails throughout the week. Also, the zoas from morphlogic have been thriving and I'm seeing new polyps forming. Should be a nice tank for the gobies!
