or maybe some hermit crabs to fill up some of my empty tanks. :evil_lol: which do you think would be better. my bf really wants the hermit crabs but i'm leaning towards puffers of some sort because i don't want to buy a bunch of new equipment. it would be a species only tank, so which do you think i should get? and if it' s puffers what species and how many for a twenty gallon?

My roommate had a dwarf puffer in his community tank and it was terrible. he ate the fins of all of them. In a tank of 20 gallons i would probably only go with one, maybe two. Definately a lively fish.

If it's a 20 long, you could go 4-5 (make sure only one male... this is the tough part). If it's a 20 high, I'd recommend only 3. I've got 3 in my 10g (im, 2f) and there's no aggression issues to speak of. These are my favorite fish! They're inquisitive and love a heavily planted tank (they don't care if the plants are real). Mine always make me smile. Good luck with them if you decide to go this route.

edit... dwarf puffers are the only truly freshwater puffers.

please make sure you do plenty of research before getting a puffer as they are difficult to take care of.
:thm:

You could put 4 or 5 DPs in a heavily planted (fake or live) 20g high. Maybe 5 or 6 in a 20g long. DPs are 100x more interesting than hermit crabs... unless you're into that.
Keep in mind that puffers are messy little buggers (don't let their size fool you), so overfiltration and regular PWCs are a must.

that's why i would do a species tank
