Thinking of trying live plants...

I am pretty much looking at cheap and easy for now. I will see how it works out and go from there. I like the shop light idea, I will definately look into that. Thanks for the great advice everyone.
 
A bit over 2WPG will be great for you and enable you to have a nice, low maintenance planted tank....without really worrying about C02, although it is always helpful.

Just make sure to buy plants that will be ok in that moderate - low light range. Most sword plants will do ok, anubias, crypts, jagva fern, java moss, hornwort and others.
 
My local fish store always has used or scratched/dented stuff for sale.....cheap. Currently they have a triple 4-foot fixture for $20, but I don't need it over a tank with no plants. Still its hard to pass up. Try looking for deals like this if you know any non-franchise pet stores.
