This can't be true, is it?

4 wouldn't be too much. Some people go as high as 1 per gallon. Amano and ghost stay pretty small at less than 1 inch each.

I haven't been able to find them anywhere...

What if I had 1 betta and 3 AFD's in a 6g, could I still add them in?

River prawns grow to 18 inches with the claws, their bodies being only 6 inches long. They eat ANYTHING.

my ghost shrimp ate a newborn swordtail fry once.... other than that, ive never seen them eat any fish and i keep them with very small swordtails and guppies.

of course i was a bit upset (although i expected it) with that shrimp and gave it to my tiretrack eel :)

it was a very large female ghost shrimp, about 1-1/2"

Actually, if by "river prawn" you mean Macrobrachium rosenbergii, a more accurate figure would be a potential 12 inches of body and 16 of arm [your 18-inch figure is, however, more typical] when adult (proportions vary somewhat across the geographical range of this widely distributed species).

For some images, look to the following sites:

(Note the degree of color variation in this wide-ranging species).

Mariculturists have selectively developed several morphotypes, as evinced here (scroll down to Figure 5).
