this is a dumb question

update

My water IS STILL NOT mixing. What the heck is going on here???

I am going to try the warm water idea to perhaps dissolve this unmixable salt.

I am way overdue for a water change.

I use my hands to mix.

My hands are in my tank all the time anyway.

They don't hurt my water.

If I were you I'd just drop a little bit of water out of the bucket, stick your hand in the water and start swirling it around like you've gone crazy.

If it doesn't mix that way, you're in trouble...grin.

hey sub

I have done that. I also have used a turkey baster for 15 minutes straight blowing it inside the bucket to mix it. still didn't mix.... never had this problem before.

Turkey baster?

I'm talking about so much swirling and back and forth, making the water go into a cyclone in one direction then turning it around on itself violently.

That's the word I was looking for: Violent.

Worse comes to worse, dump that bucket and try again. That doesn't work, get some new salt!

I'd recommend something in a bucket...you're in it now, might as well buy the big bucket of salt...and then it's in a nice tight fitting container.

violent... hehe. I'll go crazy on it at lunch.

yeah, i may buy the bucket of salt next time. I guess I that would ensure a more air tight seal.

If this water isn't mixed by tonight. i'm dumping it and trying again.

Violence, my good man! I can mix salt and have the stuff totally disolved with my hand in a matter of minutes. I've never seen little chunks before....

Of course, I kind of take it as it comes...I'd never seen ich before this whole thing either, and I would have thought that the people I'd gotten my livestock from wouldn't have had it either, but....here I am. ;)

I tried violence tactics. lol. and the hot water idea. Nothing, still tons of grainlike salt pieces. No dissolving.

So I dumped all 5 gallons. I kickstarted my RO unit and I'm going to try this again. This is the first time i've ever had a problem with saltmixing... ever.

When I was cleaning out my bucket with freshwater I discovered that all sides of the bucket and bottom were covered in a thick gunk of salt. It's like it attached to every part of the bucket in an almost slime like manner. I had to strongly rub it with my fingers to get it off the bucket. Gross.

if your still having this problem after trying again, i would put it down to a poor batch of salt your using mate....Your certainly doing everything right...

Niko

thanks dude. I did use some salt from this bag already and it was fine.

I'll see if my next batch works. If it doesn't... could it be the humidity or something the ruined my salt? I fold the bag over and store it in a plastic bin.

its all wierd. :)
