I filled my 28 gallon on saturday. I turned on my Aqua C Remora skimmer for only a few hours and it is ruining my tank. Luckily, I don't have any rock or livestock in there yet.

I have a wet layer of pervasive foam all the way around the top of the tank. It will sort of dry, but when I try to scrub it, it just becomes wet again and can not be disposed off. I also have a tint of some residue or bubbles on every aquare inch of the glass and all the equipment. It is a pain to clean.

It makes my tank look horrendous. I am about ready to pick the thing up and smash it. Is there something I can do to make this thing calm down? Should I just get rid of it and use my powerheads and the 50 pounds of live rock I have coming? I only plan on having one fish and some little invertabrates.

Keep in mind, this thing was only on for a few hours and it has completely ruined the appearance of my tank. I don't even know how to clean the tank now. The foam on the glass scrapes away, only to come back once it dries again. Somebody please help! Thank you guys.

It is not very thick. I already have 30 pounds of CaribSea Argamax sand in there. It floats at the top and makes a ring around the top, but it has coated all my equipment and glass walls under the water as well.

I just emptied the tank of all the water and left the sand in there. How do I clean all the residue left on the glass? I know I can't use any chemicals.

Hmm... That is really weird... I used that same sand... and i had a small ring of foam around the top for about a day... but because i have a built in overflow, all of it got skimmed of the surface and went down into the sump... it was gone within a day...

As far as cleaning it off...

Get a mag-float cleaner thing... You can get one at petco and whatnot..

The foam can hang around for a while. When i last used it and had to get rid of it, i simply used a green pot cleaner, the scratchy plastic kind and just keep washing it out as you go...

Hmmm, I always thought the appearance of bubbles and foam was pretty much normal in new tanks. It goes away in a few days. The micro bubbles from the skimmer are normal, as well. It takes a skimmer a couple of weeks to break in and the micro bubbles produced will decline in time. Patience is the key. I inserted a small filter sponge(AC 50/200) into the outlet area of my AquaC Remora to reduce the micro bubbles and it helped considerably. It fits pretty snug.

Yeah, don't stress...you just need to let it run for a while, probably. You won't be ready for fish anytime soon, anyhow, so...

And just wait till the first diatom bloom...that'll really tick ya off! ;)
