i am finally getting everything for my fish tank, minus the fish, because i know to do a fishless cycle. my stock will include panda cories, ghost shrimp, dwarf gourami, and bloodfin tetras in a 15 gallon tank. heres a list of what i THINK i need. please let me know if i am missing anything:

1.15 gallon tank
2.Food: sinking wafers ($3) and flake food ($5)
3.Filter: aquaclear 30 gallon $30
4.Gravel: 15 pounds $10
5.Test kit: liquid master test kits $15
6.Hood
7.Gravel cleaner: $5
8.Heater: 50 watt Marineland Visi-Therm Stealth $15
9.Prime water conditioner
10.Bucket
11.plastic plants

is that everything??

I'd get more than one bucket. I often need 2-3 at the same time. Make sure to write Fish Only on the outside to keep them safe.

Are you going to get ammonia to cycle your tank, or throw in a dead shrimp?

Excellent. Let me know how terribly it smells, will you? I think I'm going to have to go with ammonia.

It's not mandatory but I highly recommend:

Algae scraper
Some sort of background material (even construction paper works)

Also, a stand....if you don't already have somewhere sturdy and somewhat waterproof to put it.

Enjoy! yer off to a great start!

You should have 40-60 gallons of filtration on your tank, filters "rated" for so much water don't filter that much, and in the end, 60g of filtration would be good, but having 2 25g filters would be close enough if there is much of a price diff.

does it really smell that bad??

I wouldn't think it smells worse than a dead mystery snail, unless it leaves a foul taste in your mouth too....

How many of each fish/shrimp are you adding?

It can , although I have heard different people say it is or isn't as bad as you think. We had 2 10 gallon tanks that I did the shrimp thing with at the exact same time. I room you wouldn't have even known and the other, although not horribly bad, definitely had a strong fish smell
