Synodontis catfish usually mix well with cichlids; a group of petricola or a single eupterus would do well in a 75.
Thanks for the suggestion, its something I hadn't thought of. I am guessing that Synos would probably shuffle a lot of sand and mess up my plants though.
Mike, your weenies are adorable, just as weenies should be! We adore ours, though I had no idea that a dog could be so bossy. I am more of a big dog person, but when you have a small home you have to compromise a bit. A Dachshund definitely carries a big dog attitude around in those short little legs!
I have S.Petricolas, I don't have sand just small gravel. I've never seen them do much to the plants and they swim,sometimes low but they're all over once they get used to the tank.
Tay and Pit love your doxies! I want a small dog of my own, our pug is my bf's dog and we have the shepherds. It's between a corgie and a doxie. If it's a doxie he's getting the name of Slinky,lol, they're adorable
Syno's aren't substrate-sifters or inclined to dig IME. I've never kept any in a "properly" planted tank (I stick with Najas, frogbit, etc. with my cichlids) but I have observed them for years. The larger species like eupterus or angelicus tend to be territorial, the petricola are a social species.
The common upsidedown catfish, S. nigriventris, is also a smaller, social species that's not particularly bottom-oriented. Particularly if there's structure or cover (driftwood) available for them to hang around.

That's my experience too. They will live happily with Neons and guppies. My big guy is now in with an Oscar, and sometimes the Oscar decides it's a good idea to sneak around back and give the pleco a nip. There is usually then a lot of splashing from the tank, and the Oscar picks up some scuff marks. Then he leaves the pleco alone for another week. He's a bit of a slow learner though as this has been going on for 6 months.
Thanks Tay and Bgourami yeah i love my weenies but yep they have a huge bundle of big dog attitude in them for Doxies i am getting a 6 week old German Shepherd pup next month so that i can get my big dog tude on plus he will be trained in K9 and will be my partner i have about an acre of fenced yard so room ins't a problem.. My old partner was a Pit named Star and she was a mean one but is no longer with us..
As for the Syno's either S. multipunctatus or Petricola will suffice they are group cats and do not bother plants or substrate i had a colony of S. Multi's and they would breed with my Acei all the time well steal eggs from them and throw a few of their own eggs LOL.. The great thing is that these cats stay on the small side..

Another option, depending on the size of your other fish, may be one or more of the Tanganykian mouthbrooding bullhead cats. They grow to about the same size as the multipunctatus, but have much bigger mouths. Given suitable shelter they're not too active by day, though they will come out for food, but definitely not a species that would disturb plants or the substrate. I have a group of 6 young moustache cats currently in a 10 gallon tank with some extra endler's. The adult endler's are safe, but the fry disappear as quickly as they come along. They'll be moved into either a 40 breeder or 33 long soon, and eventually into a 75 or 125. I just need to finish getting the basement tanks organized and moved.
I appreciate the suggestions, but looking at the Synos, my husband and I both think they are a bit ugly, haha. I promised him no new fish for awhile anyways so I guess it works out.
