I currenty have a 125 FOWLR and my fish consist of:

-flame angel
-coral beauty
-yellow tang
-purple tang
-niger trigger
- star fish
- urchin

I am wanting to add some bright color to the bottm of the tank. I saw some bright red shrimp (sorry I dont know the name). If I get rid of the niger trigger do you think these shrimp could easily be kept in my tank? maybe even a bright goby?? I just want some bright creatures around the bottom of the tank to spice it up a bit. any ideas?

Thanks

Shrimp of any kind will be a snack to the trigger. If you got rid of him, they should be okay. Most likely what you saw were commonly called either fire or blood shrimp. Reef safe, very social in groups, hardy and easy to feed. You'll need to make sure there are lots of nooks and crannies they can hide in while molting. They won't hang out on the bottom though--ours tend to wander around on the rock, foraying to the bottom only rarely.

How long has your tank been set up? The pygmy angels ever fight?

the tank has been setup for almost two years. Actually the pigmy angels nor the two tangs ever seem to fight. I do want to correct one comment I made earlier about having the shrimp crawl on the bottom.... when I said bottom of the tank I did mean crawling on the live rock as well.
So even though I do not have a reef setup you think the shrimp will do just fine?? (with the niger gone of course). How many would you recommend getting? anything else you recommend?

Thanks for your help!!!

Blood Shrimp are fine in about any setup that doesn't include predators. I would get 3 at a minimum, and up to 5 or 6--you will see them more often in a larger group. The only other thing is you might want to monitor your iodine levels. Iodine is essential for shrimps when the molt. It helps the build their new exoskeleton. We feed ours pellets and wafers, as well as anything they can clean up. Great additions to a tank, IMO.

Congrats on keeping the angels together--it's a challenge to get the mix just right.

The shrimp to stay away from include cleaners--most tanks don't have enough fish with enough parasites to support them. Peppermint are great--they'll also get rid of any aptaisia you have hanging around. Sexy shrimp (not sure of another common name for these guys) also eat aptaisia, but are very small, not ideal in alrge tank. The Blood are great, hardy IMO. I would avoid coral banded shrimp--they tend to be very territorial and will kill off other shrimp.
